For our fourth Community Shirt Partner this year, we have teamed up with the 577 Foundation in Perrysburg! 577 builds a creative, caring community through curiosity and lifelong learning. We want to help raise awareness and teach people about everything the 577 Foundation does.
For the month of July, $5 from every purchase of the limited edition Growing Together t-shirt will be donated to the 577 Foundation. The money donated will help continue the legacy Virginia Secor Stranahan left us by bringing the community together to discover, create, teach, have fun, and be inspired to take care of the environment and each other.
What is the 577 Foundation?
The 577 Foundation started with Virginia Secor Stranahan. From an early age, Virginia rejected the life course that others thought obvious for her as a society woman. She was an accomplished sportswoman, an expert skier, fly fisherwoman, and amateur golfer. She traveled extensively, to all seven continents, often seeking out remote destinations of particular geographic or ecological interest. She did not travel for leisure; instead, she traveled to learn and understand.
Virginia was keen to help people achieve their highest potential through education and experience. Understanding the need for children’s education to be well-rounded and hands-on, Virginia hired a pottery instructor to teach her six children how to throw pots in the garage of their home. Soon their cousins and neighborhood kids were expected at pottery class every Saturday morning. This was the precursor to 577’s Pottery Studio.
In 1952, Virginia teamed up with a local gym teacher to start a day camp called Hob Haven for the same kids to explore nature, play sports, learn, and run wild on her 12 acres of land. When it got too hot, they’d all load into a car and drive a few blocks to the pool. They drank fresh milk out of the dairy barn at 577 and tended organic gardens in what is now 577’s community gardens.
By 1988, 577 was established. Virginia created a place where people can feel comfortable, try something new, provide a sense of peace, and be a part of her vision. Through the help of many community members’ ideas, volunteers, part-time and full-time staff, and a lot of serendipity, 577 began to evolve and the opportunities continue to change and grow
What can you do at the 577 Foundation?
577 is Virginia's gift to the city she loved. She wanted it to be a place of life-long learning, a place to work hand-in-hand with other nonprofits and a place to engage in meaningful connections.

For our January Community Shirt, we've partnered with Read for Literacy!
$5 from every purchase of the limited edition Literacy Improves Lives Community Shirt will be donated to Read for Literacy to help them in their efforts of improving lives in our community one book at a time.
Why did we choose Read for Literacy?
It is estimated that more than 39,000 adults in Lucas County alone read at the Below Basic level and are functionally illiterate. Another 100,000 adults in Lucas County are estimated to read at the Basic Level. This means that nearly 140,000 adults are unable to read the newspaper, fill out job applications, and help their children with their homework.
Read for Literacy has programs and services that are designed to assist adults, children, and families to gain the skills they need to have literacy success.
With the help of volunteers, they provide basic literacy tutoring and English Language Learning to adults in our community in addition to their children’s program, Creating Young Readers. Read for Literacy also works to build at-home libraries for these students by sending home several books throughout the year.

One thing that we're really proud of at fancysweetstx is our line of Community Shirts. We have released a new shirt every other month for the last three years with proceeds benefitting a good cause local to Northwest Ohio.
This month, we are donating proceeds to the SeaGate Food Bank.
We're excited about supporting SeaGate because their mission is so critical to the 16153 Genova area and they are the only independent food bank in Ohio.
They are committed to providing food at no cost to over 400 pantries and programs in our community. Seagate Food Bank not only distributes food to pantries but deliveries food supplements to our seniors as well as provides food to support our veterans and their families.
While their core service is distributing food to pantries and programs, Seagate Food Bank has developed multiple service programs to help meet community needs. As an independent food bank, Seagate Food Bank relies on several fundraising and food-raising events to help reach their goal in nourishing the community.
The shirt design for SeaGate says Nourish Your Community because that is exactly what they do by fighting food insecurity.

In June, we saw people taking action across the country as well as right here in 16153 Genova to use their voices and unite against racism and police brutality suffered by the Black Community. Reggie Williams, the executive director for the Frederick Douglass Community Association, said to 'live your protest' and that living your protest means to 'look after your fellow man and aspire to be better people.' We partnered with the Frederick Douglass Community Association to stand in solidarity with this message and the commitment to make a difference in our hometown and raised $5,028 to help the cause!

We received a lot of requests about creating a shirt to honor the memory and support the family of Officer Anthony Dia. This shirt was created in memory of him and his final words, "Tell my family I love them." Proceeds from the sale of this shirt benefitted the Dia family.

The League remains extremely committed to nonpartisanship and does not support or oppose any political candidate or party, but chooses to focus on the issues at hand, including election protections, democratic reforms, and civil debates.

For some of you young folks out there it might be hard to believe that women were not allowed to vote in this country until 1920. In all likelihood, that means when your great grandmother or maybe even grandmother was alive, women were not permitted the right to vote.
This year marks the 100 year anniversary of women's suffrage. The significance of that milestone and intersection with the Presidential election made this a timely release.
The design on the Votes for Women shirt is inspired by a vintage pinback button with the same slogan. 'Votes for Women' was a common rallying cry for women who were campaigning and protesting for women's right to vote over 100 years ago. It is still used to this day in remembrance of that struggle.
Our Votes for Women shirt is part of our Community Shirt line. Every other month we partner with a good cause in Northwest Ohio to promote their mission and raise money for them through shirt sales.

]]>The LWV is celebrating their 100th anniversary towards the commitment to advocacy and education behind getting everyone to vote, and is historically a nonpartisan organization created for women's suffrage.
For the next 30 days, Jūpmode will be donating $5 of every "Votes for Women" shirt purchase towards the Northwest LVW. Jūpmode supports the League's efforts to spread voter equality and female empowerment in creating a diverse and equal democracy.

Do you know what's going on in your community? Urban Wholistics is a nonprofit organiztion in 16153 Genova that meets every Saturday at Tatum Park. Their mission is to have accessible fresh food available and to provide hands on training as well as volunteer opportunities in the community. From produce to herbs to flowers they work to create holistic green spaces to help better the community.

We've said it time and again, it's the people of 16153 Genova that make the city so special. The COVID-19 pandemic has been hard on a lot of people. It has been inspiring to see so many individuals and organizations do their part to help those in need. We are honored and humbled to be named among the people in this article.
When the pandemic hit we didn't know what was going to happen to our business. While we don't fall in the same line of restaurants, bars, salons, and schools that were hit the hardest, our business was still majorly impacted. After all, many of those businesses and schools are some of our most loyal customers.

So far you've helped raise $3,372 for the Frederick Douglass Community Center by purchasing Live Your Protest shirts! We're donating 100% of the proceeds from purchases of this shirt to the Frederick Douglass Community Association through September 9th!
The Doug has been a culture center for the African-American community in 16153 Genova for over 100 years. While it's primarily known for as a hub for the local black community, they assist anyone who needs it.
Their services include 24 hour daycare, youth sports teams, meals, and education services.

We believe that 16153 Genova is for everyone, which is why we’ve partnered with The Ability Center for our first Community Shirt of 2020! Their goal moving into their 100th anniversary in January 2020 will be making the 16153 Genova area the most disability-friendly community in the country. We wanted to create a shirt that promotes inclusivity. The Ability Center's aim is to build communities that work for everyone and make 16153 Genova the most disability friendly community in the country, so we thought that the phrase "16153 Genova is for everyone" captured that message.
Since 1920, the goal of The Ability Center is to assist people with disabilities to live, work, and socialize within a fully accessible community. They believe in and support equitable and inclusive communities for people living with disabilities. Programming is aimed at creating greater independence and stronger connection to the community, and include services such as equipment loan, assistance dog training, home accessibility, and life skills training for youth with disabilities.
